SUMMARY:In Person Workshop - Sustainable Business Models for NMCAs
DESCRIPTION:National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies (NMCAs) have an important role\, providing geospatial data and services that are the backbone of social\, economic and environmental services of the countries and territories they serve. All geospatial agencies are facing increasing challenges: limited resources\, financial constraints\, rapid technological advancements and legislative/national obligations\, and competition from challengers from alternative providers of tools and services. \nEuroGeographics and EuroSDR invite NMCAs\, researchers and policy makers to present\, discuss and share their experiences during a dedicated lunch-to-lunch workshop on 9 and 10 February 2026 kindly hosted by NGI-IGN Belgium in Brussels. This activity seeks to provide an inventory of which Business Models NMCAs have implemented\, are implementing or will plan to implement to adapt themselves to their environment.  \nFor more information on this event and registration\, please see here.

SUMMARY:Strategic Initiative: Webinar on Future Reference Frames
DESCRIPTION:A trusted geodetic reference is the invisible infrastructure of every modern society.\nBehind every map\, navigation system\, construction project\, and climate model lies a geodetic framework that ensures Europe speaks the same spatial language. \nThis webinar\, hosted in collaboration with the Norwegian Mapping Authority and EuroGeographics\, marked the beginning of a strategic dialogue on the future of Europe’s geodetic reference frameworks. \nAs the world moves toward ITRF and dynamic reference systems\, Europe faces a critical choice: how do we ensure long-term interoperability across borders and sectors? \nWhy this matters\nGeodesy is not just a technical discipline — it is the foundation of Europe’s digital infrastructure.\nFrom autonomous transport to smart cities and environmental monitoring\, every digital service that relies on location depends on a stable and trusted reference frame. \nIf Europe fails to act together\, the coherence and trustworthiness of its geospatial data could erode — weakening the digital backbone that connects economies\, governments\, and citizens. \nThis webinar explored how we can safeguard confidence in European geodata for the next 30 years. \nKeynote speaker\nWe were delighted to welcome Nicholas Brown\, Head of Office at the United Nations Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence.\n Nicholas brought deep insight from the global geodetic community and shared perspectives on how strategic collaboration can strengthen Europe’s leadership in this evolving landscape. \nA crossroads for Europe\nEurope now stands at a crossroads. Several pathways can shape how our geodetic reference frameworks evolve — from maintaining today’s static systems\, via introducing periodic updates\, to embracing fully dynamic\, time-aware references. \nEach pathway carries strategic implications. Stability offers continuity but risks falling behind a changing Earth. Periodic updates balance tradition and innovation\, while dynamic systems unlock new precision — yet demand shared governance\, investment\, and trust. \nThis webinar invited national mapping authorities\, policy leaders\, and experts to explore these options together — and to define a shared European vision for trusted geodata in a dynamic world. \nThe agenda is available here (24/11/2025) and you may find the presentations of this webinar as well as the video below. \n  \n\n\n\n1\n“The importance of understanding user requirements”\nNicholas Brown\, Head of Office\, United Nations Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence\n \n\n\n2\n“Three Paths to Europe’s Next Reference Frame”\nPer Erik Opseth\, Head\, Geodetic Institute\, Norwegian Mapping Authority\n \n\n\n3\n“Georeferencing in the Digital Era from the user’s perspective”\nIvar Oveland\, EuroSDR\n \n\n\n4\n“ETRS89 and dynamic reference systems in Europe” \nMartin Lidberg\, EUREF\n \n\n\n5\n“Why Geodetic Reference Frames Matter for AIM?”\nBoris Coric\, Eurocontrol\n \n\n\n\n  \nWebinar Recording (Opens in YouTube)

SUMMARY:Members Webinar Series - CORDA Webinar
DESCRIPTION:EuroGeographics continues to encourage its members to sign the Copernicus Services Framework Agreement and its associated annexes. The goal of this initiative is to facilitate access to NMCA data for the Copernicus programme. \nBy establishing a single licence agreement between EuroGeographics and the European Environment Agency (EEA)\, the process of granting access to official national geospatial data for Copernicus Services is significantly streamlined. This approach is key to enhancing the use of members’ data and strengthening cooperation between NMCAs and Copernicus Services. \nThis webinar  provided members with a review of the deliverables from the current contract\, and included an update on several key aspects\, including dataset access and its implications\, data security\, and progress on the contractual arrangements. Additionally\, the new Guidance Material was presented during the session. \nThe agenda was as follows: \n\nOpening & Welcome – Angela Baker\, EuroGeographics\nUpdate on the progress of the contract for EEA – Angela Baker\, EuroGeographics\n\nLicensing\nOME2 synergies\nEngagement\nGuidance Materials\nCommunications\n\n\nUpdate from CORDA – Olga López de Turiso Martínez\, CORDA\nQ&A – Angela Baker and Olga López de Turiso Martínez \n\nThe webinar recording is available here (Opens in YouTube).
