SUMMARY:Joint EuroGeographics and EuroSDR Virtual Workshop on Geodata Discovery
DESCRIPTION:After a first successful edition in 2022\, Eurogeographics and EuroSDR jointly organized a second Geodata Discovery online workshop\, from 16/01/2024 13:30 to 17/01/2024 12:00. This workshop aimed at achieving a common vision of what discovery is nowadays\, thanks to exchanges between different perspectives on that field: public or private actors\, local or global\, GI specific or not. Optimizing the chance of potential users to find data relevant to their needs requires various tools and technologies that complement each other. The discovery process should also be more intertwined with current application development and data exploitation.  \nThe agenda can be found here and the abstracts are published here. \n  \n\n\n\nDay 1\nPresentation Title\nPresenter\nMB\n\n\n\n1.\nUpdates on the creation of pan-European geospatial datasets\nHannes I. SUMMARY:TD KEN Webinar - Edgematching\, Quality\, & Life Cycle Management
DESCRIPTION:Through many years of experience in delivering pan-European datasets\, EuroGeographics\, its technical data production team and users\, have identified technical challenges in producing seamless and harmonised datasets from official national sources. These challenges have been grouped into five main topic areas: generalisation\, edge-matching\, harmonisation\, quality and life-cycle management. \nWe recently ran a survey asking your views on the five topic areas which are barriers to seamless pan-European data. The high-level results were presented at the TDKEN/SDQ 2023 meeting last week. We are now embarking on a series of on-line meetings to delve into the results of each of the topic area to identify the gaps and issues for each of the topic areas. And see how we can advance knowledge exchange and learnings in the topic areas. \nWe invited EuroGeographics members and external stakeholders on October 26th to the first of these on-line meetings which looked at generalisation and harmonisation. This second on-line meeting dealt with the topics of Edgematching\, Quality\, & Life Cycle Management. \nThe agenda was as follows: \n\nWelcome to the meeting\nIntroduction to the topic Edge-matching\nFacilitated discussion – All are invited to contribute\nIntroduction to the topic Quality\nFacilitated discussion – All are invited to contribute\nComfort break\nIntroduction to the topic Life-cycle management\nFacilitated discussion – All are invited to contribute\nNext steps\nMeeting close\n\nThe presentation of the webinar can be found here. \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Understanding CORDA: Facilitating NMCAs role as Data Providers for Copernicus
DESCRIPTION:CORDA (https://corda.eea.europa.eu/) represents the gateway to authoritative geospatial reference data from official sources such as National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies (NMCAs) for Copernicus. It is a convenient single entry point in the complex landscape of national and subnational data provision\, offering Copernicus service providers an index of URLs linking to datasets at varying levels of regional organizations\, all while maintaining a common language and a standardized method of data organization. \nCORDA was launched in 2015 as part of a major investment by the European Environment Agency (EEA) in coordinating cross-cutting access to In Situ Data by Copernicus. Access to the platform is restricted to the Copernicus Entrusted Entities\, its service providers\, and the actual in situ data providers\, and it hosts more than 300 active users and more than 1800 datasets from nearly 300 data providers. \nNational Mapping and Cadastral Agencies (NMCAs) and other data providers play a crucial role in achieving optimal reference data coverage that meets the user requirements of Copernicus Entrusted Entities. To this end\, the recently revised partnership agreement between the EEA and the EuroGeographics will facilitate increased availability and access to essential geospatial data for the Emergency\, Land and Security Services. \n EuroGeographics organised this webinar to present a set of CORDA user guidelines to NMCAs in order to facilitate the implementation of this agreement. \nThe draft agenda was as follows: \n\nIntroduction – Sallie Payne\, EuroGeographics\nUnderstanding CORDA – Jose Miguel Rubio\, European Environment Agency\, Olga López de Turiso Martínez & Iñaki Diaz de Cerio Paniagua\, CORDA team\nQ&A using Sli.do\n\nWebinar Recording (Opens in YouTube) \n
